Music comes from the Soul
Kayli Sousa is a 23-year-old musician/singer-songwriter. She was born in Brazil but she moved to Ireland at the age of 5 with her parents. She is best known for her pop/indie/latin music. Additionally, having recently completed a BSc in Biotechnology with a first class result, Kayli is continuing to pursue her career in science at the school of medicine in Cardiff University studying a Msc in Genetic and Genomic Counselling.
Kayli enjoys incorporating her Brazilian heritage into her music, through lyrics and latin instrumentals. Being classically trained on piano she also likes to integrate more sophisticated sounds associated with the classical period of music into her songs.
She began making and releasing songs with Artists at the age of 17. Her first collaboration was with Brazilian Producer ‘Asfrotype’, a pop/house tune called ‘About You’. She then began to collaborate with French/Canadian Rapper ‘Gorak’, they released two hip-hop songs together called ‘Fellows’ and ‘Fine Time’.
In 2019, Kayli released her first original single called ‘Can’t Love You No More’ featuring her close friend and female rapper ‘EdgyV’. It is a fun, light, playful pop song to dance to, but it is also mellow enough to sit back and relax to. She had a lot of success from this first release and it made her excited to work on new music and release more songs she had written.
Shortly after she began to work with the talented rapper/songwriter ‘KDX’. She featured on his album ‘Empath tree’ singing an emotional song addressing the modern-day struggle with mental health called ‘BE Bipolar + OK’. Whilst working with ‘KDX’, she featured on his summer afrobeat song ‘Jaiye + Jappa’ singing her verse 'Jaiye + Jappa' in Portuguese.
Her latest single is called 'Pretty Baby' and is deeply immersed in her Brazilian routes by its use of Latin and Bossa Nova sounds. She worked with ‘Beardfire Studio and Label’ to create her ideal sound and vision for the song. It is a summer tune that everyone will want to blast out loud in their speakers on repeat.
Kayli has always been a well-established musician from a very young age. She began to play the piano and sing when she was just 8 years old, then going onto learn the tin-whistle, accordion and guitar. Kayli has been playing and gigging with her variety band 'The Odd Sox Band' when she was 15 years old. They have gigged at various functions around Ireland and Kayli said that is was through her band that she discovered her love for performing.
Her signature style and tone of voice has made her music instantly recognizable, and extremely popular. Kayli’s greatest desire is to make music to connect to people on a deeper level as well as keeping it light and fun.
For now, Kayli is focusing on her career in science and healthcare as a trainee genetic counsellor. She hopes to return to music once fully qualified and bring more smiles to peoples faces.
